I know we should never be suprised by the sheer stupidity of the Newcastle United board but the sacking of Chris Hughton as manager still came as a shock to me. Mike Ashley continues to make the club look like an absolute shambles. Chris Hughton has done a fantastic job with a very limited bunch of players. At the moment they sit in 11th position in the Premier League. Only a month ago they hammered their fierce rivals Sunderland 5-1. They followed that up by beating Arsenal at the Emirates. Fine, they were embarrassed by Bolton 2 weeks ago but they followed that up by drawing with the champions Chelsea. Yesterday they were missing Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson. That's their two central defenders and two of their most influential midfielders. If you take that out of any team in world football, the team will struggle. They did. They were well beaten by West Brom but to sack a manager because of that is ludicrous. He's had to manage more people with behavioural problems then a prison guard and he still managed to get them promoted last year and into a comfortable position this year.
Ashley said that Newcastle are looking for someone with more experience to manage the club. Well they won't have a host of world class managers queueing up to take that position. Newcastle fans need to show Mike Ashley how they feel about this by not attending games and hitting him in his pocket. Most Newcastle fans are more realistic since the relegation and survival would have been seen as a reasonable achievement. It seems though that Ashley is determined to turn the club into a laughing stock. Maybe the rumour that he's a secret Sunderland fan is true.
